All We Really Need in Life is Each Other Raymond Carver’s â€Å"Neighbors† is a moral based story. In the beginning of their marriage Bill and Arlene were very content with one another’s companionship, but now they live in envy of their neighbors, Harriet and Jim. It seemed to the Millers that the Stones live a much more fulfilling life. When Harriet and Jim are away on business/vacation trip they would entrust Bill and Arlene to feed Kitty, water the plants, and look after their apartment. The Miller’s behavior in the apartment becomes very odd and inappropriate when they almost try to live the Stone’s lives throw their possessions. But what implications does the process of globalization have with regards to its effects on real people in real time? Given the vastly different political and economic climates of different societies around the world, as well as the vast differences between class groups within individual societies, this issue is not as simple as pointing to an individual ethnographic example and stating ‘globalisation affects all of humanity in this way’. There are clearly going to be varying degrees of positive and negative implications, depending on the society in question. Arjun Appadurai identifies globalization as a source of anxiety for many in the academic world of the United States. He specifically refers to the fears of social scientists, that increased wealth through markets and deregulation is accompanied by increased economic ine quality (Appadurai 2000: 1). Economic inequality has become a fairly prominent issue in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, which caused massive job losses, which in turn has led to greater and more prominent economic inequality. The overall perspective from which one see’s and interprets the world. A collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by individual or a group. PART 2 – The Biblical/ Christian worldview of Origin, Identity, Purpose, Morality, and Destiny. 1. The question of origin-â€Å"Where do we come from? How did we come into existence? † Christian believes that God created earth, the heavens and everything in it out of his own will. Christian believe that mankind was created by the one and only sovereign God (Genesis 1:27). The bible states that the process in which God created Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:7-8, 23). Adam was created from the dust off the ground and Eve from Adam. â€Å"God who made the world and all things in it, since he is lord of heaven and earth† (Acts 17:24-25). Therefore, we all are created by God. 2. The question of Identity-â€Å"Who am I†? â€Å"What does i t mean to be a human? † â€Å"Are humans more important than animals? Christian’s worldview teaches that God created man (Genesis1:27). We were created in God’s own image. We were given responsibility over the earth and rulers over animals (Genesis 1:26-28). Since we were created in God’s image, we are separate from animals and are given the right over animals (Genesis 1:28). We were known to God before our births. 3. The question of meaning/ Purpose- â€Å"Why do I exist? † The original purpose of the first man’s creation was when Adam rebelled against God. Men and women discovered themselves to exist in order to know God, to do his will, to glorify him, and to enjoy him forever (1 Corinthians 13:12). Why do I exist? † We are here because God created men and women to inhabit it (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:7). Also, our purpose is to know Christ, to allow him access to our lives, and to develop a personal relationship with him (John 17:3). We are to love other Christian believers. 4. The question of Morality- â€Å"What is meant by right and wrong? † and â€Å"How should I live? † The basis in which we differentiate between right and wrong is our knowledge of God’s law. This knowledge comes from two sources revelation and conscience. The bible says that God wrote his law on our hearts (Romatns 2:15). This is conscience. God gave a commandment to Adam and Eve in the garden. He gave ten commandments down to two essential commandments- love God and love your neighbor (Exodus 20). All of these represent God’s revelation of his law. 5. The question of Destiny- â€Å"Is there life after death† â€Å"What will happen to me when I die? † Christians believe in two eternal states for all human beings: Heaven or Hell. Heaven and Hell are both eternally places where people exit in the presence and blessing of God in Heaven (Revelation 21) or in a state of separation from God, being punished in Hell( Revelation 20 11-15) (weirder and Gutierrez pg65). A new heaven and a new earth will come. But the day of the lord will come as a thief in the night , in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up (Peter 2 3:10). Our salvation is a gift to any of us who wants to receive it. Part 3- How might/ should biblical worldview influence the way? A major worldview of mine is to do unto others as you would like done unto you. This is an important factor which I am cognitive of most days. Therefore, when addressing others it is important that I choose my words wisely. There are times it may be difficult and I need to be on a â€Å"time out,† however, this too shall pass. All humans are to be treated with respect, dignity without regard to their religious convictions, race or creed, and their social status. In the political/voting arena, my choice for any particular candidate is, â€Å"does he/she represent â€Å"me? † Do they represent my views? Will their worldview blend or shatter mine? Shall my family, friends and loved ones be represented as well? Furthermore, shall this candidate’s worldviews affect my life in a positive or negative manner? If any of these questions are received as â€Å"Nay,† then my support is withdrawn. An aunt of mine warns me to turn off the water faucets. It is a bad habit of mine to let the water flow freely as I do other things in the kitchen or house. She further warns that this is wasting water and goes on to explain â€Å"drought. † to me. Her warnings have awakened a new concern for the environment my children and I live in. No longer does the water flow freely. I am becoming aware of my â€Å"carbon footprint† being left on this earth. Therefore, lights are turned off, no littering or polluting our waters. The aerosol can has become an enemy within my household for it is weakening our ozone layers. A future career will be established in the same vein as my choice of political candidates. How will it affect my livelihood? Is there a pension attached. How will my medical needs be met? Will they respect my choice of religions and give me the religious holidays off? Employee details and leave records are recorded in a card file that is kept in a box on Trans desk. It is hard to retrieve information. Secondly the current client records are maintained by Abbey in a database created using Excel spreadsheet. This is stored in her system, and she is the only person who can access or update the data making it hard for others to access information. Also the current staff is not skilled to fill the level of fellow employees. Only Abbey can stand for the receptionist, Heidi. Lastly the current computer system is not networked, and consists of six workstations with selected application from Microsoft O ffice such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint installed on each terminal, dependent on the users needs. For a new system to be implemented then it needs to planned and this will involve the consultation process. The stakeholders and system users of the system who need to be consulted include system analysts and employees who were asked random questions, and different departments were given questionnaires to fill. Stakeholders were also included through consultation in the planning, development and implementation of the system. The consultation process should take at least one week on the time of implementation of the new system A new system need to be upgraded to solve the problems encountered by the new system. The areas that need upgrading involve the client data base, Microsoft office and the change Management which entails confidentiality and privacy. Recommendation for new system Based on the problems experienced by the users of the old system then a solution can generated by coming up with a new system. The new system would bring changes in employee training, networking and updating data. The employees will be trained on the usage of new system which will include networking of the computer and updating of the data. I recommend a customized computer system. The new system will be required to adhere to the set rules and regulations which will impact on the implementation of the system. One of the legislation will be privacy act in which the documents of the employees need to be kept private as possible. Another legislation to be applied the retention of the previous records of the employees. The records of the employees need to be retained and protected and lastly the system should adhere to the software licensing by ensuring that the software is legitimate and can be applied by the company. For the company to prosper then it has to select appropriate suppliers. This selection can only be through the tendering process by the suppliers to choose the best supplier with the best price quotation. (Grant, 2013). It is through discussions with the stake holders that the suppliers who have applied for the tender will be evaluated by having the following traits (Pal, et al, 2013): The cost of delivery should be low. The service or the product must be safe and of high quality The supplier must be promising to deliver on time The service being delivered must be of the agreed quality The supplier must have social responsibility and communicates in case of delay The risk in employing the supplier must be minimal The supplier chosen must be convenient. To achieve the intended goals the project will need; a wireless data system provider, resources to purchase the product, time for employees trainings, and controls and monitoring systems. Implementation and consultation In trying to implement the new system into action in the organization, parallel method will be used. In this case the old system will run side by side with the new system to be able to determine the errors that may come with the implementation of the new system. The consultation of the new system will take place to determine the correct method of implementation, using of the required resources of the old system and lastly the compatibility of the new system to the environment i.e. it should not be obsolete. Different experts(system analyst) will be called to examine the new system and conduct a test analysis to see if the process will be a success. The strategies that will be applied to monitor the new system will be a communication blog for the users of the new system to communicate of any problems that may arise. The system developers should also monitor the system from time to time and ensure the users are able to use the system without any difficulty. There should also be a proposed training on the employees of the organization. Manuals and workbooks for the employees should be provided to prevent any difficulties in using the system. Seminars and training forums should also be instituted. All the required resources will be provided to the employees during training and a given duration will be provided for training for each individual based on the department that he is situated. The contingencies that will be taken to ensure that there is no distractions like the software failures, staff resistance and delivery delay will involve; educating the employees on the importance of change in the organization. There should be a backup plan like the usage of old system in case the new system failure and lastly there should be an emergency suppliers of materials in case the other supplier fails. Based on the effectiveness and security of the new system, the new system should be teste for one week to ensure it works effectively and efficiently. It should also have passwords to protect the information of the employees for confidentiality purposes. Programs and time should also be set up for the new employees to be trained on the new system. Lastly the customers and the employees should be fully satisfied with the new system and it should also be user friendly. In conclusion the Management should try to change the operations of the company by ensuring there is smooth transition of the system. This can be through advertising for the opportunity to fill the gaps in employing skilled workers, training skill workers and updating computer software and networking.
